Stepless adjustment and self-locking mechanism

KNIPEX 83 10 020 pipe wrenches are adjusted directly to the workpiece. Open the jaws by turning the adjustment screw, place the outer jaw on the workpiece, press the inner jaw and turn the adjustment screw – the tool is ready for use.
  Quick stepless adjustment allows the pliers to be adapted to the workpiece dimensions across the entire working range.

Light pressure on the handles is sufficient for the pliers to lock firmly to the workpiece in the direction of rotation. This self-locking mechanism significantly simplifies the application of high torque. 
When changing the direction of rotation, turn the pliers around to maintain the self-locking effect.
