Use and measurement method:

Clean the measuring surfaces and the guide - use a cotton cloth, do not use solvents or acids.

Check the zero position and set it if necessary.

Open the measuring surfaces to a slightly greater distance than the object to be measured.

Then turn the drum for initial setting and continue tightening by turning the friction clutch button.

Tighten until the clutch engages - this means that further turning of the button will no longer cause the drum to rotate.

Read the measurement result.
